Latest writing project: SC’s “Education Governor” Dick Riley

Over the years, I’ve written hundreds of thousands of words – some with no byline, some over someone else’s ghostwritten byline, and some under my own byline.

But to this day, I still get a thrill when pulling my hard copy of Columbia Metro Magazine from my mailbox and seeing my byline in an article I’ve written. This month’s is one of my all-time favorites about “South Carolina’s Education Governor” Dick Riley.

So much has been written about Gov. Riley and his leadership in our state and country. I could never do his career justice in just 2000 words. It’s a real honor to share this snapshot of his legacy, his love of our state, his commitment to his family, and his belief in the good of people.

’94 gubernatorial campaign fly-around stop the week before the election

I first met Gov. Riley while attending political events with my dad when I was in high school and getting my first glimpse of the career path I would ultimately follow. I later got to be friends with two of his children and traveled with him on the campaign trail when Nick Theodore ran for Governor. Now, 30+years later, whenever I see him, Gov. Riley still shares fond memories of my dad and always has a kind word for me.
